BrightMEM is an innovative corneal allograft that is transplanted on the ocular surface.
BrightMEMâ„¢ Corneal Allograft
The BrightMEM Corneal Allograft
BrightMEM Anterior Keratoplasty (BMAK) with BrightMEM corneal allograft is a surgical procedure in which a BrightMEM corneal allograft is transplanted onto the ocular surface. It is made from Descemet's membrane, which serves as an optimized substrate.
The product is aseptically processed from tissues obtained from donated human tissue (corneas) according to the current Good Tissue Practices (cGTP) regulations established by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
BMAK Procedure Overview
Prepare the Patient
Allow tissue to warm to room temperature. Using an operating microscope, check that the allograft is 100% flat.
Trephine the BrightMEM Allograft
Trephine the tissue to an appropriate diameter to fit within the area of epithelial debridement, allowing for 0.5mm clearance on all edges.
Place the BrightMEM Allograft
Place the trephined corneal button with the BrightMEM allograft side down onto the cornea surface, staying within the margins of the epithelial debridement. Allow the cornea button to dry for 2 minutes. Peel the corneal button away, leaving the BrightMEM allograft in place.
Smooth Out the BrightMEM Allograft
If there are wrinkles in the allograft, use a cannula to gently sweep over or under the graft to smooth it out.
Secure the BrightMEM Allograft
Apply fibrin glue, ensuring all edges are fully covered. Next, place a bandage contact lens over the glue.
